The Road Less Travelled

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence

"The Road Not Taken" is my favourite poem . This timeless classic has stayed my favourite through all my phases of life ! : This traveller faced with an important conscious decision, chose the least popular road, the path of most resistance. He was destined to go down one, sad at not being able to take both, sacrificed the popular one for the other not taken quite often .
Ultimately, the brilliant poet leaves the readers to make up their own mind about the emotional state of the traveller at the end. Was the choice of the road less travelled a fruitful one? It certainly made "all the difference," but Frost does not make it clear just what this difference is and leaves the readers speculating -to each his or her own ❤️
